Family Formation provides free adoption services to birth mothers. This includes all adoption planning, providing profiles of adoptive families, regular counseling both over the phone and in person. Most important, Family Formation provides legal representation at no cost to birth mothers.

What living expenses can be paid on behalf of a birth mother?

Most states allow the adopting family to cover any of the birth mother’s pregnancy related expenses; this typically includes living expenses. Some states limit the overall amount that is paid or on the types of expenses that can be covered. The laws of your state and the laws of the state where the adopting family lives will affect the assistance allowed in your adoption.

Family Formation attorneys are experts in determining what expenses are allowed in various states and will work hard to make sure your needs are met within the limits of the law.

Medical insurance and who pays the doctor’s bill?

Family Formation will help you to obtain medical insurance for the pregnancy if you don’t already have coverage. If insurance coverage isn’t possible, the adopting family is allowed to pay all medical bills.

What about counseling?

This is entirely your choice. We strongly believe that an adoption should be a win-win situation. We encourage counseling for the birth parents both prior to and after the arrival of the baby and understand the grieving process a birth family may go through around the birth of the child. We refer to counselor local to the birth mother. All of the counselors involved are unbiased in the adoption and have no vested interest, financial or otherwise in the outcome oft he adoption.
